Carlos Beltran is expected to be back with the Yankees on Sunday after missing nearly three weeks with a rib injury.
His return could mean the end for Brendan Ryan, since the Yankees currently have three middle infielders on their roster, with Rob Refsnyder and Stephen Drew also taking up spots.
Beltran’s absence has been felt especially against right-handers, with Chris Young struggling against righties and Garrett Jones having an inconsistent year at the plate and occasionally subpar in the outfield.
Before going down, Beltran had been productive, and he survived his rehab games with Class-A Tampa.
