Report: Patrick Corbin agrees to six-year deal with Nationals

The Yankees have missed out on the top free agent pitcher on the market. According to Chelsea Janes and Jon Morosi, left-hander Patrick Corbin has agreed to a six-year deal with the Nationals. The Yankees offered Corbin a five-year contract and were apparently unwilling to tack on the sixth year.

More coming in a bit. My quick take: This really stinks, if true. Corbin is the best available and would’ve given the Yankees a third elite bat-misser in his prime alongside Luis Severino and James Paxton. How can you spend all winter talking about the need for starting pitching only to let the top starter get away over a sixth year that takes place beyond the current Collective Bargaining Agreement?
