Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly basically said "oops" for drilling Tyler Austin and setting off a rowdy brawl on the field in the seventh inning of the Yankees' 10-7 win over the Red Sox on Thursday night.
Kelly said he was just trying to pitch inside, not hit Austin. That's despite just missing him with the previous pitch and finally nailing him with a 98-mph heater on the elbow.
Joe Kelly, naturally, said the pitch got away from him. Personally I love this explanation: "I walk a batter per inning, so it's not like I have Greg Maddux command.
