BOSTON — The Yankees and Red Sox learned their fate after Wednesday’s bench-clearing brawl at Fenway Park, with Boston right-hander Joe Kelly receiving a six-game ban and Yankees first baseman Tyler Austin getting five games. Both players were also fined and will appeal their penalties, meaning both were available for Thursday’s series finale, according to Joe Torre, chief baseball officer for MLB.
Fines were also handed out to Boston manager Alex Cora and Yankees third-base coach Phil Nevin for their involvement in the scuffle, as well as players on the disabled list who came onto the field, CC Sabathia and Boston’s Dustin Pedroia and Xander Bogaerts.
