Mayor de Blasio, a die-hard Red Sox fan, said he skipped opening day at Yankee Stadium on Thursday because “it wouldn’t be a good experience for anyone involved.”
He made the comment outside the Mets’ home stadium, Citi Field, during a press conference about cutting the fleet of city vehicles.
Asked why he didn’t hold the press conference at Yankee Stadium instead, the mayor responded:
“I am stupid, but I am not dumb. Not the place for me today.”
The reference was apparently to the booing he expected from Yankee fans.
