The acquisition of Starlin Castro did not exactly motivate Comcast executives to rush back to the negotiating table and settle their carriage dispute with the Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network.
Considering Brian Cashman’s other winter meeting moves (dealing pitchers Adam Warren and Justin Wilson) Castro is what amounts to a big splash, yet more like a pebble in the ocean. If the GM sticks to his blueprint of “getting younger and more athletic,” while not getting bogged down with mega-bucks, long-term deals, expect more grit and much less glitz in the Bronx.
What this eventually does to the Yankees, in terms of the TV ratings and ticket sales, remains to be seen.
