Raccoon causes trouble at Yankees’ spring training

Sports

A member of the New York Yankees grounds crew attempts to remove a raccoon from the foul ball netting behind home plate at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

This masked bandit risked his life trying to sneak a peek at the Yankees on Sunday, but don’t worry — he’s safe!

The raccoon scaled the backstop at the Bombers’ preseason home at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla., and survived a frightening fall from the top of the barrier.

A stadium worker in a cherry picker tried to coax the critter into coming down, but the animal lost its grip and plummeted about 40 feet to the ground.
