SEATTLE — The Yankees can’t sleepwalk through September, but it’s almost a layup that they will play in this year’s American League Wild Card Game.
And it seems likely, too, that they’ll face the A’s.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at what could be the Wild Card roster fashioned by manager Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman.
Remember: In the do-or-die scenario, the Yankees won’t need to carry extra starting pitchers, so they can load up on bench players and relievers.
Why: If Gary Sanchez's defensive struggles persist, the Yankees could turn instead to Austin Romine.
