Last week we observed the 40th anniversary of Thurman Munson’s tragic passing. Today, we remember Bobby Murcer’s efforts in the Thurman Munson game, which took place on this day in 1979. Just hours after delivering a eulogy at Munson’s funeral, Murcer had arguably the best games of his career. He drove in all five runs, including a three-run homer in the seventh inning and a walk-off single in the ninth.
You can check out our retrospective of the game here, written back in 2012, as well as footage from that night. It still gives you the chills, doesn’t it?
