Pedro Martinez endorsed the Red Sox pitcher who threw 98-mph heat at Tyler Austin’s ribs Wednesday night, triggering a brawl that made 2018 feel like 2003.
His only problem: What took so long?
“The only thing I would had done different than Joe Kelly tonight,” Martinez, now an analyst for MLB Network, wrote on Twitter, “is I would’ve hit Tyler Austin at his previous at bat. Other than that, Kelly executed perfectly.”
Austin, the Yankees first baseman, struck out in the fifth inning against reliever Heath Hembree, briefly being spared for his hard slide into second base two innings earlier.
