Sometimes teams have to give up good prospects to acquire players who will help them win now. It is notoriously difficult to predict whether a prospect will succeed at the MLB level, so these types of trades are usually worth it. The Yankees’ farm isn’t quite as good as it was a few years ago, but that is because many of their prospects have graduated to the big leagues, or they have traded them away.
