LAKELAND, Fla. -- Five New York Yankees pitchers held a fairly representative Detroit Tigers lineup to just two hits Friday, but it was one pitch from Vinnie Pestano to -- who else? -- Miguel Cabrera that made all the difference.
Cabrera belted the pitch over the right-center field fence with two runners on -- Pestano had hit Anthony Gose with a pitch and walked Ian Kinsler -- and that was all Detroit needed to nail down a 3-0 win. The Yankees, who sent just three players likely to be in their Opening Day lineup -- Didi Gregorius, Starlin Castro and Brian McCann -- had six hits but only three runners got as far as second base and the team was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
