TAMPA — Manny Machado could not have landed any farther from the Yankees. After meeting with the Bombers this winter as part of his tour of potential suitors, the All-Star shortstop agreed to a record deal with the Padres. The deal, according to reports, is worth $300 million over 10 years with an opt-out after the fifth year for Machado, pending a physical.
Not only did Machado end up across the country from the Bronx and in a different league, but the contract he agreed to was not even in the same universe as what the Yankees were thinking.
