TAMPA, Fla. — It's official: we will have a rematch of the 2015 American League Wild Card game on Opening Day next Monday in the Bronx.
Yankees' manager Joe Girardi told YES Network's Meredith Marakovits during Thursday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals that right-hander Masahiro Tanaka will start Monday, matching him up against Houston Astros' lefty Dallas Keuchel, who beat the Yankees 3-0 on that October night.
As long as Tanaka remained healthy this spring, and he did, this Opening Day news was expected.
The righty, in his third year with the Yankees, inked a seven-year, $155 million deal prior to the 2014 season after pitching the first part of his career in Japan.
