The New York Yankees outlasted the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon to pull their winning streak to six straight ballgames.
Runs came at a premium for the Yankees against the Cardinals, scratching and clawing in order to get their runners across the plate in any way possible.
The Bombers scored their first run in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch from Carlos Martinez, who had trouble finding the strike zone during his outing in New York, surrendering a staggering eight walks.
The Yankees would add on two more runs in the sixth thanks to a fielder’s choice by Aaron Hicks followed with an RBI single by Chris Carter.
