The New York Yankees announced on Monday that top prospect (per MLB Pipeline) Gleyber Torres will undergo Tommy John surgery and miss the rest of the 2017 season after being diagnosed with a torn ulnar collateral ligament.
The announcement came after the 20-year-old was placed on the seven-day disabled list thanks to a collision at home plate during a contest with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Saturday. Although it was initially diagnosed as a hyper-extended elbow, head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad’s analysis showed the injury was more serious.
