Over the weekend the New York Yankees began spring training simulation games, first against the Boston Red Sox and then the Tampa Bay Rays.
In 2018, the first base position was filled with concern due to Greg Bird’s struggles and inability to regain his form after a foot injury derailed his development. Despite his ailment, GM Brian Cashman refused to give up hope in Bird, and he will once again battle for the starting job in the season ahead.

In his first game of 2019, Bird went 2-for-2 with a double into center field and an infield single.
