The New York Yankees announced today that they traded Nestor Cortes Jr. to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.
Cortes, who is known for his unique pitching style, appeared in 33 games last season for the Yankees and was credited to a 5.67 ERA. He was a part of the “next man up” mentality as he filled some holes when other pitchers went down with injuries.
The 24-year-old was designated for assignment last week, along with first basemen Greg Bird, so the Yankees could make room for upcoming prospects on the 40-man roster.
