The New York Yankees, in need of long relief protection, announced on Monday that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Luis Cessa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Cessa, who lost his bid for a rotation spot in spring training, posted a 1.54 ERA through four starts with the RailRiders while striking out 12 batters compared to nine walks.
Last season, the 25-year-old surrendered 11 earned runs (5.30 ERA) and five homers in eight relief appearances.
To make room for Cessa on the 25-man roster, long man/emergency first baseman Bryan Mitchell will ride the Scranton shuttle and head over to PNC Field.
