New York Yankees officially sign Chris Carter, DFA Richard Bleier

The New York Yankees officially signed Chris Carter to a one-year, $3.5 million contract, the team’s PR department announced via Twitter on Thursday.

In order to make room for the 2016 National League home run co-leader, New York designated left-handed reliever Richard Bleier for assignment.

Bleier maintained a 1.96 ERA in 23 appearances in the Bronx last season and allowed just six against left-handed hitters during his first taste of the majors (.150 BAA).

Carter will receive a $500K signing bonus (added to a base salary of $3 million) and can earn an additional $100K for reaching 250, 300, 350, 400 and 450 plate appearances.
