Two weeks after being placed on the DL with a right flexor forearm strain, New York Yankees right-hander Michael Pineda took his first step to returning to the team with a rehab start for the Double-A Trenton Thunder. In three innings, Pineda threw 42 pitches and gave up four hits and two runs, without recording either a walk or a strikeout. Moreover, 30 of his 42 pitches were strikes, quelling any fears of a potential loss in control following his injury and nearly a month away from the mound (he hasn’t pitched in a game since July 24).
