Yesterday afternoon, various sources reported that New York Yankees starting third basemen Chase Headley was dealing with calf issues. Because of this, the Yankees recalled infielder Cole Figueroa to take his place on the roster.
For those of you who haven’t heard of Figueroa, you’re not in the minority.
Besides a brief stint in the major leagues last season – Figueroa played in 27 games for the Tampa Bay Rays – the 28-year-old has been a career minor leaguer. After making his way from rookie ball to the major leagues in seven years in the Rays and San Diego Padres organizations, the former ninth round selection has found a home in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the home of the Yankees AAA affiliate.
