Veteran left-hander Jon Niese was actually released on Sunday after he surrendered three runs on five hits in just six innings of work in the Grapefruit League.
When he was signed there was a possibility Niese could possibly make the Yankees 40-man roster, after a disappointing spring performance that is all but out the window.
