DJ LeMahieu made it clear he understands what his role is with the Yankees.
Asked on a conference call Wednesday about the fact the Yankees have an infield already filled with starters, the Gold Glove second baseman said he “was told to bring a lot of gloves, if that’s any indication.”
The 30-year-old LeMahieu signed a two-year, $24 million deal with the Yankees, seemingly ending any serious pursuit of Manny Machado by the Bombers — though sources within the organization haven’t completely ruled it out.
ESPN and others indicated on Wednesday that Machado’s lone offer so far this offseason was a seven-year, $175 million deal by the White Sox.
