The New York Yankees have agreed to a deal with veteran second baseman Neil Walker, according to multiple reports.
The deal, which was first reported Monday by Yahoo! Sports, is pending a physical. FanRag Sports reported that the sides agreed to a one-year major league contract worth about $5 million.
The move could signal that highly touted prospect Gleyber Torres, who has been competing for the Yankees' starting second-base job, will start the season in the minors.
Torres, who recently was rated as baseball's No. 5 overall prospect by ESPN's Keith Law, is hitting 3-for-23 this spring.
