After leaving his last start Thursday with a right elbow injury, Chase Whitley will undergo Tommy John surgery, the Yankees announced Monday.
Whitley is 1-2 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.293 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 19.1 innings this season.
The team did get some good news Monday, though. Masahiro Tanaka threw a 29-pitch bullpen session earlier in the day. The Yankees placed their ace on the 15-day disabled list with a forearm strain and writs tendinitis on April 28.
