BOSTON — CC Sabathia’s decision to throw at Tampa Bay’s Jesus Sucre on Thursday- and admit to it- could cost him more than the $500,000 bonus he may not get.
The lefty was also suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount, MLB Chief baseball Officer, Joe Torre, announced Saturday. He will appeal the decision. Sabathia is not in danger of missing any postseason games, since any punishment won’t be enforced until 2019.
Sabathia was retaliating for Rays’ right-hander Andrew Kittredge throwing a 93 mph fastball behind Austin Romine’s head earlier in the game.
