Mitchell making case for swingman role in Yankees bullpen

DUNEDIN, Fla. — The Yankees’ bullpen is beginning to take shape.

Bryan Mitchell pitched four innings of one-hit ball against the Blue Jays Saturday, continuing his impressive spring. Mitchell, who has allowed only one run over 14.2 innings (0.61 ERA) this spring, appears destined for the “Adam Warren role” as swingman, one of three open spots in the bullpen.

“He’s performed really well, and we’ve talked about some different roles that he could possibly fill,” manager Joe Girardi said. “He’s doing everything that he needs to do.”

Mitchell has allowed six hits and one walk this spring, striking out 11.
