Miguel Andujar topped off his historic rookie campaign this weekend in Boston. On Saturday, he broke Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio’s franchise rookie doubles record. The next day, he tied the American League record set by Fred Lynn in 1975.
Andujar’s record-tying double came in the top of the fourth during an otherwise meaningless game, as both teams’ postseason berths and seeding were already assured. Batting against fellow rookie Bobby Poyner with the Yankees trailing 7-0, he lofted a high fly ball to left. Red Sox left fielder Brock Holt went back to the wall and leaped about a foot in front of the Green Monster, but the ball bounced off his glove as he attempted the catch.
