Mel Stottlemyre “fighting for his life”

According to a Facebook post by one of his sons, former Yankees pitcher and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre is in the hospital “fighting for his life.”

The 75-year-old Monument Park enshrine was diagnosed with multiple myeloma back in 2000. After being in remission for a few years, the cancer reappeared in 2011 and he has been fighting ever since.

“Calling all prayer warriors during this holiday season,” Todd Stottlemyre’s post reads. “My father is in the hospital fighting for his life. He has battled cancer for 16 years. He is the greatest champion that I have ever met.
