The Yankees pushed hard to get rid of Sonny Gray, and in the process, added a new prospect to their pipeline Monday.
With a third team involved, center fielder Josh Stowers ended up being the return. The Yankees got minor league second baseman Shed Long and a compensatory draft pick from the Reds for Gray and minor league pitcher Reiver Sanmartin, then flipped Long to the Mariners for Stowers.
Seattle’s second-round pick (54th overall) in 2018, the 21-year-old Stowers hit .260 with a .790 OPS and 20 stolen bases in the Low-A Northwest League last year.
