After an early exit Sunday night due to a sore right calf, Brian McCann was back in the Yankees lineup Monday afternoon against the Royals.
Following Sunday’s loss and again prior to Monday’s matinee, the catcher insisted he was OK. Evidently, he was right.
McCann provided one of the key blows in the Yankees’ stunning eight-run first inning against Kansas City as they look to snap a season-high six-game losing streak.
His three-run homer to right off Jeremy Guthrie gave the Yankees a 5-0 lead before an out was recorded. It was McCann’s fifth home run of the season — all of them coming in The Bronx.
