Matt Holliday’s dream is finally here, but that’s not why he’s sweating

JUPITER, Fla. — Let the record show that Matt Holliday’s first visit to George M. Steinbrenner Field as a Yankee was, in his words, “a disaster.”

Just last week, Holliday attended the college football national championship game at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, an easy walk across North Dale Mabry Highway from the Yankees’ spring-training home. He and a few friends arrived hours before kickoff via an Uber, enjoyed the thrilling fourth quarter … and then had to determine a way out of there without much of a plan.

“Me and 6,000 other people were standing on the grounds of George Steinbrenner Field,” Holliday said Thursday with a smile, having safely returned to his gym on the other side of Florida.
