Masahiro Tanaka shows some unexpected pop

The Yankees’ pitchers will be required to hit when they play at San Francisco and Arizona on the upcoming trip, so some took batting practice Wednesday before the Yankees’ 5-3 comeback win over the Red Sox at the Stadium, and Masahiro Tanaka hit two balls over the left-field wall.

Tanaka is hitless in six career big-league at-bats with one strikeout.

Because Yankees adviser Carlos Beltran is getting credit for discovering left-hander James Paxton was tipping his knuckle-curveball when facing the Astros last week, Red Sox manager Alex Cora playfully poked his fellow Puerto Rican and former 2017 Astros teammate (when Cora worked as the bench coach) Wednesday, after Paxton dominated the Red Sox in Tuesday night’s 8-0 Yankees win.
