Masahiro Tanaka is having one of the Yankees’ best pitching seasons in a decade

Many thought he should have gotten Tommy John, but he’s more than made up for injury concerns this year.

Do you remember when Masahiro Tanaka was never supposed to be healthy again? After missing part of 2014 due to a partially-torn UCL, Tanaka underwent a controversial procedure called PRP, or platelet-rich plasma injection. The medical research suggested, at least according to Andrew Mearns at the time, that it had a decent track record of success.

Since then, Tanaka has only improved. In 2015, he missed some time to injury, but he was still able to churn out 154 innings at an 87 ERA- pace.
