HOUSTON — If he couldn’t end his baseball career in The Bronx, then the romantic (if not logical) second choice for Alex Rodriguez always seemed to be Miami. The longtime South Florida resident received a god’s welcome from the fans each of the few times he appeared as a visiting player in Marlins Park and, before that, Dolphins Stadium.
But Marlins president David Samson cast doubt Wednesday on such a plan coming to fruition. At the Major League Baseball quarterly owners’ meetings, Samson said that the team never reached out to A-Rod even before he announced through spokesman Ron Berkowitz that he wouldn’t play again this season.
