SEATTLE - Mariners fans came to watch their favorite players in action Tuesday night, but it was manager Lloyd McClendon that put on the best show at Safeco Field.
A pair of non-calls on check swings by Brett Gardner and Alex Rodriguez in the third inning set off the Mariners manager, resulting in a quick ejection and a tantrum that would have made Billy Martin, Earl Weaver and Lou Piniella proud.
Facing a 3-2 pitch with one out in the inning, Gardner didn't think he checked his swing, taking a step toward the third-base dugout before being told he had drawn a walk.
