The Manny Machado free-agency train is gathering steam, and the White Sox are trying to get out in front.
Though the All-Star shortstop has yet to indicate where his eventual landing spot may be, the White Sox became the first team to extend Machado a formal offer, according to a USA Today report Thursday.
Details of the contract offer were unavailable, but most observers are projecting Machado will receive in the neighborhood of $300 million.
The slugging infielder also met with the Yankees, who are unlikely to go that high in salary, and the Phillies, who also have expressed an interest in expensive superstar Bryce Harper.
