Majors' first woman's ump? Former North Jersey prep star Jen Pawol on her way

As a college softball star at Hofstra, North Jersey native Jen Pawol aspired to be a professional artist with regular exhibits in New York City.

She might top that in her new line of work. The West Milford native and 1995 West Milford High alum might also top her prestigious honor of being named to the Star Ledger's All-Century teams in both girls softball and girls soccer.

There could be a day down the road in which Pawol is behind home plate calling balls and strikes for a Yankees game at Yankee Stadium.

Although still is a long way from becoming Major League Baseball's first female umpire, Pawol will make history this summer as the first woman's umpire in the Gulf Coast League, a short-season rookie league that begins play this week.
