In the hours before the Yankees administered the 16th beating in the last 20 games on his free-falling Baltimore Orioles, Buck Showalter was at his desk in the Yankee Stadium visiting manager’s office Monday when an aide walked in and handed him a message. It seemed the Yankees had added another pitcher to their roster: Lefthander Chris Capuano, who has now most surely set a major league record for being designated for assignment, four times by the same team in the same season.
“By my count,” Showalter said, “that gives them 13 pitchers in their bullpen today. Thirteen!
