NEW YORK -- Whenever Luis Severino was not striking a batter out Sunday night, it seemed, a batter was striking the ball out of the park.
The New York Yankees 22-year-old, who has struggled mightily in this, his sophomore season, matched one career record against the Boston Red Sox (nine strikeouts) and set another (113 pitches).
But those milestones were more than offset by a couple of mile-long home runs by David Ortiz and another more modest blast by Dustin Pedroia as the Red Sox won 5-1 to avoid being swept by the last-place Yankees.
