The Yankees and manager Aaron Boone went with their ace on Wednesday night, and Luis Severino delivered.
And in doing so, Severino’s wild-card nightmare is officially a thing of the past.
The Yankees’ ace, who was knocked out of last year’s wild-card game against the Twins after allowing three runs in just one-third of an inning, pitched four scoreless innings on Wednesday in a 7-2 victory over the A’s.
The win advanced the Yankees into the ALDS, where they will face the Red Sox — and presumably start J.A. Happ twice against their rivals, given the lefty’s success versus Boston.
