The Yankees on Wednesday night got something from a starting pitcher they had not gotten in more than two weeks: seven full innings of work.
In fact, they got more than that. Not only did they get eight strong innings from Luis Severino in a 3-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals, they got another glimpse of the pitching they expected out of him after his spectacular two-month audition in the second half of the 2015 season.
Severino’s sophomore season cast some doubt on those expectations. He was removed from the rotation after going 0-8 in his first 11 starts of 2016, spent some time back in the minors, then returned in September and showed show some promise as a reliever.
