TORONTO — Dellin Betances has become well known for his trouble keeping runners from stealing bases, but no one ever had done what Toronto’s Kevin Pillar did Saturday.
The center fielder swiped three bases off Betances in the bottom of the eighth inning of the Yankees’ 5-3 loss to the Blue Jays, including a steal of home on which Pillar didn’t even have to slide.
“It’s obviously a huge gamble,” Pillar said of stealing home, which gave the Blue Jays a two-run lead. “Sometimes, when runs are tough to come by, you’ve got to go out there and make some stuff happen.
