Andy Pettitte improved to an impressive 15-5 this season after defeating the Texas Rangers this afternoon at the Stadium. Manager Joe Torre utilized the formula today, handing the ball to Mariano Rivera for two innings and John Wetteland for the ninth to secure the win.
There is some cause for concern with Pettitte, however. He emerged from the trainer’s room after the game with his left elbow heavily wrapped in ice. The 24-year-old has experienced elbow stiffness since June 16, but manager Joe Torre said he’s been more consistent with his pitches.
