Jorge Mateo, Yankees no. 4 prospect, dominates the EL in first week to win award

TRENTON--Jorge Mateo has announced himself on the Eastern League stage, after what may be the best debut week any player has made in a long time.

All Mateo did in his first week in Double A is lead the Thunder to a 6-1 record, destroying almost every pitcher he faced in a game. His stat line so far in Trenton reads much like video game numbers: 14-for-27 (.519 average), 11 runs, 24 total bases, 12 RBI, .618 OBP, .889 SLG, and 1.507 OPS.

Those numbers earned him the Eastern League Player of the Week for June 26-July 2.
