HOUSTON — The Yankees’ starting rotation depth is set to be challenged.
Starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery left his start Tuesday night after only one inning, citing left elbow tightness. The southpaw will return to New York on Wednesday to undergo an examination by team physician Christopher Ahmad.
Montgomery threw a 1-2-3 first inning against the Astros at Minute Maid Park, only to return to the dugout with enough discomfort and concern that his work shift ended prematurely.
Rookie Domingo German relieved Montgomery for the bottom of the second.
Montgomery, a pleasant surprise for the Yankees as a rookie in 2017, put together a 3.
