Jordan Montgomery didn’t let miserable weather affect his first start of the season.
The lefty overcame temperatures in the 30s and a rain that fell steadily throughout the Yankees’ 11-4 win over the Rays and gave up just one run in five innings in the home opener at the Stadium on Tuesday.
“It was cold out there,” Montgomery said of the temperatures in the 30s and light rain that fell through much of the game. “Just grip it and rip it.”
The lefty still managed to pitch effectively before he was removed after 80 pitches, holding a 4-1 lead.
