TORONTO — John Sterling’s home run call for Giancarlo Stanton left many Yankees fans scratching their heads after he used an Italian phrase that means, “You can’t be stopped” in Italian.
Sterling said he called Berlitz Language Center and talked to an Italian master about the pronunciation. The result: “Giancarlo, non si può de stoparlo! It is a Stantonian home run.”
“No one will understand it,” Sterling said of the call he broke out when Stanton went deep in his first at-bat as a Yankee in the top of the first on Thursday against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
