Modell's Sporting Goods on Thursday kicked off its month-long initiative to raise funds for prostate cancer research with a star-studded event.
The event included execs from the family-run chain as well as former Yankees skipper Joe Torre and retired Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda.
“I was diagnosed in spring training in ’99. I associated cancer with death,” Torre said. “The more education you have, the more you understand, the more you realize that you’re not necessarily going to die but you can go back to living a normal life.”
He was joined by Michael Milken, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1993.
